Our Story

Inspired by traditions, heirlooms, and our love for our grandmother, Mila embodies a gift of legacy and power passed down through generations of women in our family; an incarnation of strength, support and womanhood.

The Legacy

All the words in all the languages of the world would not be enough to rightfully weave the stories of how one woman passes on her strength of character, and heirloom of honour to the women of her following generations.

Our legacy starts with our grandmother — Ur(MILA). A part of her name and the essence of her identity forms the foundation of House of Mila and her house it is indeed.

Our Founders

We spent our early childhood in safekeeping of our grandmother as their working parents embarked to take on the world everyday with a zest to provide us all our eyes could see. A regular story if you would look from the outside — a grandmother looking after her grand daughters.

But from the inside, our grandmother’s unconditional love and care, her stories and the mutual camaraderie is where the magic happened. Fables, folklores and fairy-tales rich with adventures, virtues and vices ingrained a veneration, so deep within us, for stories that it now assumes a constitution for our brand. Our trio established an uncommon platform for the exchange of ideas that brought our traditional and modern worlds together.

The unconditional acceptance led us to adopt each other’s way and cement our bond beyond blood — the grandmother encouraging the go-getter disposition of her granddaughters and them embodying her virtues and traditions.

A Celebration of Womanhood

The world had changed radically for our grandmother from 1940s - the decade of her birth - to now in 21st century where women had the space to be more and all she wanted for us daughters was to be ourselves; unapologetically ourselves.

We never felt the need to be anything other than who we were — strong, gentle and independent. When you are not focussed on competing, you are focused on nurturing — you nurture yourself, your community and sometimes the whole world. It doesn’t take away from your ambition instead it helps you refocus on what truly matters.

Imbued with our grandmother’s guidance to rest in our authenticity — Mila is a legacy of celebrating womanhood.

An Age of Innocence

Having to leave behind her family home and heirlooms during the India/Pakistan partition of 1947, our grandmother’s veneration for the legacy and heirlooms she built again, grew stronger than ever.

Other than stories and virtues — jewellery and shawls became our grandmother’s most revered heirlooms. Her love for pearls and pashminas — which she inherited from her mother and sisters — is cemented just as much in our DNA.

An ode to balance, determination and wisdom that our grandmother instilled in us from a very young age — our pearl collection — An Age of Innocence is an ode to our grandmother’s virtues, her stories, her past and present, and her love for pearls and us.
